WOODLAND PLANTS
One of the oldest collections in the garden is the extensive assortment of woodland and shade adapted plants. Mature native conifers dominate the landscape augmented by an additional 150 trees that were added to the garden. With over two-thirds of the cultivated grounds in shade, experimention with and acquisition of new plants for these areas is a passion. Current focus rests mainly on the evaluation of new perennials and bulbs tolerant of these conditions. We are particularly interested in plant selections tolerant of root competition and dry soils.
